Metaverse professions

Metaverse professions
Since Facebook changed its name to Meta, the concept of the metaverse became popular, largely thanks to Mark Zuckerberg's commitment to virtual reality, which are spaces where people interact through avatars, and this no longer has anything to do with movies of the future.

Virtual environments will not only require developers or engineers specialized in the technical part of the metaverse, but also other quite curious occupations, even a large part of the jobs that will be created are still unknown.

The new professions in the metaverse

For those of you who still don't know or haven't heard of Metaverse, we could define it as a shared virtual world. In this parallel reality, users can create an avatar and travel and interact in this immersive virtual world, where it is possible to do a wide variety of activities. For example, creating contacts, playing, working, shopping, and even remotely attending a concert or sporting event.

As with the digitalization process, the metaverse is creating new hybrid and IT job opportunities that require a combination of Soft and hard skills.

Are you aware of the professions that will be most in demand in the metaverse, are you ready to explore in the future?

- Ecosystem developer:  coordinate partners and governments to ensure that the various functionalities created are possible on a large scale.

- Hardware engineers: They will have to operate in a three-dimensional environment, you will need the development of new cameras, headphones, portable devices, sensors, etc.

- Storytellers: Unlike video game writers, storytellers in the metaverse will operate at a higher level and will be responsible for creating a compelling and immersive story for various game genres and experiences.

- AR and VR software engineers: According to a report on the profile of software engineers, jobs related to augmented reality and virtual reality increased demand by no less than 1400% in 2019 alone. As the metaverse expands, it will continue to increase by leaps and bounds.

- 3D Game Designers: They are responsible for conceptualizing the characters, configuration, story and gameplay of the game. In addition, they also work with developers and programmers to translate these ideas into code.

- Metaverse Planner: The planner should promote a strategic portfolio of opportunities from proof of concept to pilot and implementation.

- Product Managers: Its functions would be to control the end user experience, test and resolve bugs in new products.

- Marketing Specialist: Unlike the flat, two-dimensional web, companies will have the ability to create experiences on a large scale. These could tell a story, allow users to interact with your product and, eventually, make a purchase. All this without leaving the metaverse.

- Cybersecurity expert: The metaverse is the perfect target for cyberattacks and fraud. For example, with pirated avatars, theft of NFT, pirated headphones, and so on.

- Scientific researcher: These profiles will have to build something similar to the theory of everything, in which the entire world is visible and digitally processable. This architecture will be the foundation on which all other use cases will be built: games, advertisements, quality control in factories, and so on.

- Digital Fashion Designer: In the future, the demand for fashion stylists will skyrocket to create avatars and dress them to match the personality of each user.

- Tour guide in the metaverse: You can navigate from universe to universe to experience all the possibilities of the Metaverse. General culture, art history, games, history and geography, immersive navigation, group tours, etc. It has a thousand experiences to offer.

- Artifact search: As in the gaming world, you can usually obtain an artifact by completing a very difficult mission or solving a complex puzzle.

The artifact can also be a defect, an unexpected and random gap in the source code of the Metaverse, opening up possibilities for unprecedented interactions in construction by those who discover it.

- Smart Contract Lawer:  The creation of a smart contract requires specific legal and technical knowledge that is currently very rare in the market. Lawyers are already positioning themselves in this emerging niche. However, companies will need internal specialists because the “smart contract” will become, with the blockchain, an essential component of transactions and, therefore, of the life of companies.

- Metahuman Doctor: All our biometric and physiological data will be digitized and contained in our metahuman avatars, especially those related to our health conditions.

Thanks to the embedded nanotechnological sensors, this data will be updated in real time. This will allow metadata doctors to simulate the evolution of the pathology, establish the diagnosis and carry out tests and treatments.

Like any digital entity, our avatars can be subject to viral attacks that affect the integrity of their data, thus creating digital pathologies that affect one or more of their properties. To overcome this scenario, metamedics must combine disciplines at the crossroads of medicine and digital sciences

- Data Bounty Hunter: How Can Users Control Their Data Dispersed Across Different Websites, Organizations, and Governments? A new service would emerge to ensure that they have access to and ownership of all of them.

- Minecraft Gardener: virtual landscape gardener who will provide professional advice to players looking to improve their outdoor spaces.

What will the search and hire of these profiles be like in the metaverse?

Candidates will be able to upload their CV to the blockchain. Since there is no possibility of retrospectively modifying these entries, we could inform ourselves of an applicant's credentials through verified references from previous companies or educational institutions, which would allow contracting companies to know for sure their qualifications and experience. When it comes to the pre-selection of candidates, artificial intelligence models have the capacity to carry it out with much greater rigor than before.

In the current context, there are a large number of professionals working electronically and the number of interviews that are carried out through Teams, Zoom... rather than in person, is not a small number. In these cases, the Metaverse is a great option, far superior to what a Skype screen or any ordinary video call offers.

The Metaverse provides a closeness and a feeling that, under no circumstances, can an ordinary screen give you.

Put it into practice

Obviously it will have points in common with “classic” selection processes, but the activity must be adapted to the reality of the Metaverse.

In the virtual universe there are fewer biases due to its conception itself, you use an avatar (although, if the occasion requires it, it is also possible to use a camera as a video call). The other person will not know your appearance because your appearance is virtual: you choose your appearance and, in fact, you can change it whenever you want. This leads to listening more deeply to the human being with whom you are interacting and not feeling conditioned by their physique and the biases that this may cause you.

Something that is important to mention is emotional intelligence and knowing how to address the person with whom you are going to communicate correctly. For example, being sensitive to self-identification and asking the other person how do you want me to address you, what pronoun are you most comfortable with?

It is interesting that we can make the other individual feel as if, instead of a job interview, they are in a friendly conversation, to make them feel comfortable and relaxed.

Thanks to this virtual functionality, we will be able to improve the work environment and the dynamics in the work teams, as well as have more dynamic tools to meet new candidates and interact, offering the best experience.

Work opportunities around virtual reality will emerge as these spaces become part of daily life.
